This is Dixie from the ghaleonmagicemp group. I created a hacker. In reference to the NT3RF4C3 supernatural asset feature bringing in other players as avatars, these players have a maximum [STR + MTL] score equal to the hackers current total "STR + MTL", shouldn't this be [KNO + MTL]? Because its not clear what the hacker's current "total" is in the text. I was thinking of all the hackers in all of the cyberpunk fiction I've read. Hero Protagonist is the most combative. All of this fiction puts an emphasis on being fast in the net which is [WIT + Instinct] so I went with a 2 WIT. [KNO + Sciences] is also important so I went with a 3 KNO. The Gifted Concept gives you 12 Core Value points to spend. With STR, MTL, KNO, and WIT being important to a hacker KNO and WIT being the most important for playability and STR and MTL being important for NT3RF4C3 combat this leaves the hacker with over all being good/dangerous at one or the other or neither.
Cheers!

Cheers! Hi Dixie! You are right - there's some confusion here. The following is the corrected text: COMBAT. Virtual combat works just like combat in reality, but each avatar's MTL score (including the Hacker’s own) is equal to the Hacker’s KNO score. When wounded, the character running that avatar suffers an equivalent number of –1 penalties to all actions. After suffering a number of wounds greater than the Hacker’s [KNO x 2] score, the avatar is deleted (‘dies’) and the character wakes in the real world. Some VIs also have the power to ‘boot’ (remove) characters from their world. Does that help?

Just to be sure, the negatives put on a character pulled in by the Hacker only apply to the target character himself right? It doesn't affect the Hacker at all?

Directer here. Why is hack WIT+Comp and not KNO+Comp? I think it would help make hackers more versatile with the KNO+Comp. I also have an idea. How about while in the net, hackers can redistribute their points in computer into their physical block of skills. This will make hackers much more versatile. This will allow them to be fair participants in combat in the "real world" while being very dangerous while in the net. The reason I say this is because with points being as thin as they are at creation, having that redistribution will allow for hackers to be more viable in the net, giving them more to do other than just be glorified taxi drivers into a world that they can't do anything they couldn't do sitting at a computer with a high hack skill.

You're right! In fact, I think my document is being Hacked! Every time I go back to the hacking-related assets it seems that it's reverted to a previous version.... It is KNO + Comp, not WIT. I like the redistribution idea, too. I may add that!

The problem locations are as follows: hacking is listed as wit+comp on pg 68 and the same formula is listed as hack defense on pg 23.

I think this goes without saying but are all -1 "wounds" from VR combat removed when someone is booted or logs out from a MUD?
Any thoughts about taking more damage than your "avatar" could handle? So if Joe Blow was brought into a MUD by his Hacker buddy and has an effective MTL of 3, and has already taken 5 wounds from a VI what happens if it hits him for 13 damage? Just booted out all fine and dandy? I kind of have this mental image of translating to real damage at that point all Matrix/Cyberpunk style.

Not sure how I missed responding to this earlier, sorry. Yes, I had that in there previously, but removed it. As one of my last changes, I may add this back in for special circumstances or Director purview. I'll have to ponder this.
